Penguin 2.0 Update

Penguin 2.0 Update

What Is The Penguin 2.0 Update?

Penguin 1.0 was a major disaster for many small businesses and other website developers online. So much so that many have become skeptical of its update, namely Penguin 2.0. As we know, Penguin was designed by Google for SEO purposes for big multinationals but was also used by small businesses online to boast their search engine ranks.

As we know, there is a lot that goes into search engine ranking. A website has to build its ranking reputation which can be easily destroyed by web spam or less than legitimate ranking practices online. This was what Penguin 1.0 became affiliated with and left a bad taste in many mouths.

Indeed, it eventually led to many struggles for backlink profiles where website owners had to start from scratch in building ethical backlink strategies. To say the least, some even dubbed Penguin as causing and promoting unethical linking practices.

Alas, Google decided to change these views with the implementation of Penguin 2.0 which updated Penguin 1.0. Even though the skepticism with Penguin 2.0 is warranted, one should be optimistic in the positives it has to offer. Let’s examine these positives.

A more comprehensive update, Penguin 2.0’s purpose is thriving deeper into black-hat techniques which got many of the website owners in hot water in relation to their backlinks in the first place. Okay, so that’s not a positive.

In fact, the only positive one can garner right now from the Penguin 2.0 is that it is telling you to examine the long view goal and purpose of your website and simply put in the time and effort in building your ranking. This means adhering to the Google Webmaster Guidelines. You can do this by implementing a sound SEO strategy and staying away from the black hat techniques which only provide short-lived benefits to your page’s rankings.

As such, you should only acquire authoritative, credible and reputable inbound links or backlinks. By using the highest quality links for your website, you will never have to worry about penalties such as those associated with black hat techniques.

A major tenet that goes hand in hand with page rankings includes the content. Ensuring that your content is sound and impeccable ensures that the quality of your website will also be sound and impeccable and will help in your rankings on search engines.

Additionally, it is never advisable to use cheap SEO agencies. They do offer short lived advantages which usually end in your rankings dropping like flies. These agencies do more harm than good; especially those that promise 2000 backlinks in 2 weeks! If you do decide to employ a SEO agency, give our SEO Seattle agency a call.  Our agency has successfully ranked 10,000’s of keywords for our clients sites, with white hat/ethical link building and SEO.  Throughout all of the Google algorithm updates over the past few years, our clients are still enjoying the benefits of top placement on the major search engines.

All in all, if you go for quick, sloppy, slapdash backlinks, you will have a sloppy, slapdash website. To recover from the extent of Penguin 1.0 and 2.0, get rid of any backlink that looks suspicious. It may very well mean starting from scratch. This will take patience. After all, Rome was not built in a day; even though your website may have been, it’s ranking will take time and patience! Follow the best practices of SEO and you will be on your way to recovery!
